I Too Like to Live Dangerously is an advice animal image macro series based on a screen capture of the protagonist character and a memorable quote from the 1997 action-comedy film Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. The captions typically open with descriptions of mildly risky behaviors followed by the phrase “I also like to live dangerously,” in a similar vein to the We've Got a Badass Over Here and Some Men Just Want to Watch the World Burn image macros.

Origin

The screen capture and expression come from a scene in the 1997 comedy film Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, in which the protagonist (played by Mike Myers) places a high-risk wager in a game of blackjack against the villain Number Two (played by Robert Wagner).

On November 13th, 2012, Redditor Kcazaa submitted an image macro titled "Every time I see people do math with a pen" to the /r/AdviceAnimals subreddit,^[1] featuring a screen capture from the Austin Powers scene accompanied by the caption "I also / like to live dangerously" (shown below). Within three months, the post gained more than 2,300 up votes and 540 comments.

Spread

On December 29th, 2012, 9gag^[4] user johndonohoe11 submitted a photo of a person touching a "Do not touch" sign above Redditor Kcazaa's image macro (shown below, left). Within two months, the post garnered upwards of 25,000 up votes and 8,500 Facebook shares. On January 16th, 2013, a Facebook^[2] page titled "I also like to live dangerously" was launched, which posts photographs of people intentionally ignoring instructions followed by the Austin Powers image macro (shown below, right).

On February 21st, Redditor AvengerAdam submitted an image macro joking about using the fast forward feature on a digital video recorder (DVR) to the /r/AdviceAnimals^[3] subreddit (shown below, left). Within 17 days, the post received over 18,800 up votes and 225 comments. On March 10th, Redditor iDanglle submitted an image macro about attempting to capture legendary Pokemon without saving the game first to the /r/AdviceAnimals subreddit^[5] (shown below, right), accumulating more than 450 up votes and 10 comments within 24 hours.
